Why I'll Never Use Miscellar Water Again!

Image taken from Google

Hi everyone, things have been a bit quiet here lately as home life has been hectic but hopefully I am back in the swing of things now!

When Micellar water broke onto the scene it was the best invention ever. It was so quick and easy to use and made the dreaded removal of make up so much easier. When you look at the bottle you'd imagine its just water with a few ingredients that help remove make up but unfortunately that's not the case. If you follow Marissa Carter on snapchat you will know about this already and if you don't know who she is she is the brains behind my favourite tan Cocoa Brown.

She was talking recently on her snapchat about micellar waters and she even ran an experiment on her snapchat to reveal the PH levels of both them and water and I was a bit shocked! She didn't reveal the brand of micellar water she was using but you can almost bet on it they are nearly all the same.

The PH scale goes from 1 - 14 and the lower the number the more acidic the product is. She tested just water and revealed it had a PH of 7.5 then she tested the Micellar Water and that had a PH of 3.5 which is pretty damn low. Dry skin is more prone to wrinkles and fine lines and using a product with a PH of 3.5 and leaving it on your skin is just going to dry it out. She also tested a facial cleanser and that had a PH of 5.5, which isn't great either but at least you are washing that off your skin, again she did not reveal any of the brands she was using. She went on to say she believes Micellar Waters are worse than baby wipes and she now only uses it to clean her make up brushes. Before Marissa set up Cocoa Brown she was a qualified beautician with her own salon so when it come to skincare she knows what she is talking about.

After watching her snapchat any Micellar Water I had at home went straight down the sink...I could do without the fine lines for another few years anyway!! They were the easy way out for me when it came to removing my make up but now I only use cream cleansers and take them extra few minutes everyday to look after my skin.

After I posted this blog post a lovely girl called Zoe pointed me in the direction of a really cool app, its called Think Dirty and can be found in the app store. What it does is you can scan products you already own or look up certain products and it rates them out of 10 based on ingredients, 10 being considered dirty and 0 being clean.....you will be shocked by the products with a 10 rating, make sure you check it out next time you want to invest your hard earned money in something that could be doing nothing but damaging your skin!

Thanks for reading!

    1. I know I was shocked when I watched her snaps, I always use a cream or oil cleanser, I only really used micellar water when I was being lazy, the one I'm using at the minute is the fine flowers cleanser from L'Oréal and I love that one, I also really like the one from soap and glory and then I use the Fine Flowers toner to make sure its all off my face, I have combination skin and they work well for me and are designed for sensitive skin too! :)

  4. Wow I had no idea! I actually preferred the way miceller waters left my skin compared to oil based makeup removers, but I mainly go in with hot cloth cleansers anyway! xx

  5. I didn't realise that! But I was considering using a milky cleanser instead as surely this would be more hydrating. I would love to know what you'll be using instead of a micellar water now x

    1. I use the Fine Flowers cream cleanser from L'Oréal and I love it, I wrote about it here http://www.lifeoflynda.ie/2017/03/loreal-fine-flowers.html if you'd like a read. I also used the extraordinary oil cleanser which I loved too if you like using oils, I know they are not for everyone. I would recommend the Fine Flowers one though! :)
